Who we are
In 2008, our Neighborhood Community Hunger program started out with feeding only onsite and, since then, our organization has expanded to feed and sponsor throughout the state of South Carolina.
Today, we partner with churches, businesses, community organizations, healthcare agencies, food banks, and caring people.
Many of our communities are vulnerable to poverty, low employment opportunities, and hunger. Meals on Wheels Palmetto is on a mission to close the gap on such burdens by providing nutritional food and resources, by equipping our community with educational and nutritional classes, and by enhancing the community with our many volunteer opportunities!
What We Do
Healthy Meal
Adequate nutrition is required for good health, functioning, and independence. Healthy nutrition can improve mental clarity, resistance to illness and disease, energy levels, immune system strength, recovery speed, and the capacity to manage chronic health problems. Meals on Wheels Palmetto ensures that elders receive enough nourishment even when they lack family assistance, mobility, and money.
Visitation
Our dependable Meals on Wheels Palmetto volunteer, who arrives every day with a meal and a smile, is the only person they see or communicate with during the day. This particular delivery gives them a reason to get out of bed in the morning, gives them something to look forward to, and serves as a reminder to take care of themselves. Seniors who are able to travel to congregate meal venues benefit from vital social contact and companionship as well. We can all agree that dinner is more than just the food on the plate; it is also about the company at the table.
Welfare Check
Along with the unavoidable effects of age, there is an increase in the likelihood of medical problems, falls, and other mishaps. Each meal delivery includes a safety check to guarantee that in the event of an emergency or difficulty, medics are summoned, relatives are alerted, and our elders are not forgotten.
